MinsgameBOSS: Eliminate 465 Items In A Month

I’m super excited to announce that in November I’ll be playing the Minsgame along with some other great bloggers! I’m sure you might have some questions like, “What the heck?” and “Why?” so keep reading!

What’s the Minsgame?

Minsgame is short for Minimalist Game and was first created by bloggers The Minimalists. It’s a fun challenge for minimalists, whether you’re seasoned, aspiring, or just a little curious. Starting on November 1st I will get rid of one item, on the 2nd, I’ll get rid of two, and so on. On November 30th I’ll get rid of 30 items for a grand total of 465 items in the month of November.

Each Monday I’ll share with you the items that went out the door that week, as well as my thoughts and insights during the process. I’m anticipating that some items will be easier to get rid of than others and I thinking (and hoping) I’ll learn some things about myself along the way. Future posts will answer some questions such as, “What are you going to do with the stuff you get rid of?” and “Which areas are you focusing on and why?” or “Are you saving any money? Isn’t this really wasting money?” I’ll also be sharing my experience on social media so be sure to follow on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram!

Who Are These Bloggers?

I have a few friends joining me in this challenge! They are fellow bloggers and minimalists of varying degrees and together we hope to share our experiences and support and motivate one another throughout the month. We likely will have vastly different experiences as we own different things and have different lifestyles: whether it’s pets, spouses, kids, hobbies, careers, and homes…our experiences may differ so I encourage you to follow these guys and gals!

Anthony at Break the TwitchAnthony is a Minsgame veteran, this will be the second round for he and his wife! They’ve already eliminated nearly 1,000 things and are motivated to go for 1,000 more. Anthony blogs about living an intentional life and breaking the twitch of consumerism, in order to be more present. You can read about his first Minsgame experience here.

Laura at One Girl, Two CitiesLaura is a fellow cat lady who posts about great happenings and entertainment in the Twin Cities. She shares delicious photos of food and road trips and is participating in this challenge with her boyfriend. Between the two of them they will eliminate nearly 1,000 items!

Sara at Social Sara: Sara’s blog is about all things positive. Her reflective posts make you think and like me, she’s an avid reader. As a mom of two, I suspect her Minsgame will be a bit different from mine! If she plans to part with any toys or kid things, I wish her the best of luck! I love the lesson and example this experience will provide for her children.

Why Are You Doing This?

You likely think I’m crazy by now, but one of the reasons I’m doing this is because I think it will be fun! If you’ve followed along this summer, you probably noticed the recent spike in posts about minimalism. It’s a journey I’ve been on and it just keeps getting better and better. My life feels more uncluttered, focused, simple, and filled with things I love.

The Minsgame is a good way to push through some of the areas that have been more challenging for me to navigate through on this minimalism journey. Some things are easier to let go of than others. My upcoming Monday posts will elaborate more on those problem areas.

It can be easy to get lost in the mix of consumerism and society’s idea of the “norm.” Lately I’ve walked away from that mold and you’d be surprised how easy it is to get pulled back in. The Minsgame is a time for me to focus on what I want and what’s important to me. Eliminating the excess will allow me to be surrounded by the things I truly love and use regularly. It’ll eliminate clutter of all kinds: digital, mental, and physical, so that I can be more present and intentional with my time and resources. It’ll help remind me that my “enough” is likely a lot less than I think and that society encourages me to believe.

How Can I Join?

Follow each of the bloggers on their social media accounts and blogs and look for weekly updates every Monday! Join in and get rid of those items each day! We’d love to hear about your experience on our blogs or social media! Share your progress using the hashtag #MinsgameBOSS. (BOSS=a handy acronym to remember the participating blogs!) We can’t wait to see what you choose to get rid of first!
